Dogtrot: A style of home popular in the nineteenth century rural America. Typically, it had two rooms that were divided by a long, covered porch or breezeway (where the dogs could trot). As families grew, lofts might be added for sleeping or new rooms added to the back of the original pair of rooms. This architectural design was particularly common across the Southern climes because of its ability to provide cooler shelter.
