Citation Issues

Sourcing digital archival images of Church Birth, Death and Marriage Records

Hello all,

this is my first post to this forum so don't mind if something goes wrong way.

I have some issue about citing and sourcing microfilms of church records. Those records are from period between 1850 and 1890, and after WW II local parishes had to give away their Record and Certificate books to State and Local governemts, mainly to Local Archives. I went to Local Archives in my birth town past weekend and had an opportunity to watch microfilmed digital images of those records

City Directories

EE 12.56 talks about citing multiple years for City Directories. I am citing multiple city directories for Philadelphia. The years are from 1879-1891. The title of the directories include a year for example: Gopsill's Philadelphia City Directory for 1887. Would it be appropriate to cite the title as Gopsill's Philadelphia City Directory for [Year] or using Gopsill's Philadelphia City Directory for ...[year]?

Citing Ireland Census of 1901/1911

I'm attempting to cite a few census records from 1901 and 1911 from Ireland.  I am having difficulting finding the correct format.  The records are digital images from the National Archives of Ireland's website.  I have used EE Quick Check Model of Digital Images of Online Archives.  I'm having difficulty because they are individual household returns and the forms are not paginated.  The only identifier I have is that they are household number 1 in Kishyquirk in the DED of Ballyvarra in Limerick county.  This is what I have come up with: &

Commission in the Mississippi Militia

The document I have is one where William Simmons was appointed as a lieutenant in the 13th Regiment in the Militia of the Mississippi Territory, 20 Mar 1812.

This document came from the Series 488: Administration Papers, 1769, 1788-1817 at the Mississippi Department of History and Archives.

Here is the document http://mdah.state.ms.us/arrec/digital_archives/series/s488/detail/9408

Passport file deposition letter

I need to write a citation for an deposition which is part of a passport application file on Ancestry.com

National Archives and Records Administration U.S. Passport Applications, 1795-1925

The letter was written by the notory after deposing the subject's aunt who is attesting to the subject's identity, date and place of birth, and parent's names. The deposition is then notorized.

Ancestry gives the following information about the collection.

Redundant citing of NARA publications used by Ancestry

For the full reference of census sources obtained from digital images in Ancestry or FamilySearch, I understand that we should "cite the source's source", by including "citing NARA publication XXXX". But in my narrative, after I have used the full reference at least once for each of the census years, what about the case where I say, citing the 1860 census again and again, but for different states or counties? Should I continue to [reduntly] reference the NARA publication? This is making my citations excruciatingly long.
