Ontario Canada Land Record Access

Hello, I would appreciate advice regarding this waypoint citation. The image link is https://www.onland.ca/ui/4/books/80225/viewer/682762890?page=90

My attempt is:

“Ontario Land Property Records Portal,” browsable images, Ontario Land Registry Access (https://www.onland.ca/ui/ ) > Historical Books > Abstract/Parcel Register Book > Ottawa-Carleton (04) > Nepean > book 26 > Concession 2 > Ottawa Front, lot 21 to 30 > image 90 of 240; west ½, lot 24, p.1, instrument 412, John Hogg to son William, by will dated 27 October 1830, registered 24 June 1831.

Also, is it reasonable to think John was alive on 27 October 1820 and died by 24 June 1831? Probate packet pending. Thanks.

Hello, Nancy. It’s an interesting site, construction wise. Unfortunately, this path you’ve laid out does not work for me:

(https://www.onland.ca/ui/ ) > Historical Books > Abstract/Parcel Register Book > Ottawa-Carleton (04) > Nepean > book 26 > Concession 2 > Ottawa Front, lot 21 to 30 > image 90 of 240.

After the URL we have the following 8 waypoints, that we should follow in this order:

  1. Historical Books
  2. Abstract/Parcel Register Book
  3. Ottawa-Carleton (04)
  4. Nepean
  5. Book 26
  6. Concession 2
  7. Ottawa Front, lot 21 to 30
  8. Image 90

At the URL, I see the option for Waypoint 1: “Historical Books.”

When I click that option, I do not see an option for Waypoint 2 (Abstract/Parcel Register Book). Instead,  I get this screen:

As you see, it provides a list of place names, but says nothing like "Abstract/Parcel Registry Book."

Ignoring Waypoint 2, I then jumped to Waypoint 3 and chose “Ottawa-Carleton (04)" from the scroll-down menu. That took me to this screen:

Here, we see the option “Abstract/Parcel Register Book” which is you Waypoint 2 that I had to skip over earlier.

However, among the options here, I don’t see any option for the next waypoint, Waypoint 4 (Nepean).  Instead, it asks for “Property Description: Select Type” and Nepean is not an option there.

If I use the blank “Other Information” blank and type "Nepean," then I’m given another screen with 10 options:

But none of these options match any of the details you give in Waypoints 5, 6, or 7.

Meanwhile, the URL that you provide for the exact image does work. That leaves us with one of two options:

  1. Construct a citation based on the URL, not the path.
  2. Go back and reexamine the path and rework it so that users can go from one waypoint to the next without obstacles.

Would you try one of these two and give us another draft to work with?
