EE, I am researching the neighbors of several different subjects within one case study. I am searching through marriage indexes for the indexed marriage record of each neighbor. I wish to see if the wife of each neighbor has a certain surname or not. I am using the index citation model on page 438. However, I need to list several index records, not just one as in the model. What is the best way to accomplish this withpout being wordy? T. Mills

Am I understanding you correctly: You want one citation to cover numerous entries? That's logical for your Source List Entry, which need only cite the database. But, for your Reference Note, why would you not cite one specific entry for the one couple to which you attach the note?

This may be part a citation issue and part a analysis issue. I have been working on a census survey. I have five subjects all of the same name on the 1841 Scotland census in a small local. I have searched, using several marriage indexes, the marriage record of several (5) neighbors on each side of each of my subjects. All searches were negative for the same surname (maiden) of my subjects. This surname of each male neighbor is a known quantity. This is about 50 searches. How can I consolidate this result? That would be 50 seperate citations. 100 if I cited for more than one index. I have completed the searches.

i would like to clarify. The surnames of the male heads of household were a known. None of them matched my five subjects surname. There were no maiden names of spouses of the neighbors matching my subjects surname.

In a situation such as this, EE would likely do a simple citation to the database being used—then add a description of what was done there and what names were sought.
