I want cite this source, but I'm debating whether it is a book or a journal. Here is the citation I have crafted in case it is a book:
Logan Esarey, editor, Indiana University Bulletin: Register of Graduates 1830-1910; PDF download, Google Books (https://books.google.com/).
Here's the link to the item in Google Books: https://www.google.com/books/edition/Register_of_the_Graduates_of_Indiana_Uni/3C7tAAAAMAAJ?hl=en&gbpv=1
What gives me pause and makes me think it is a journal is the presence of "Vol. IX, No. 5" on the title page.
Because it is imaged online, I'm not sure either what to use for publication date. Although I did not include it above, I know the original publication date is 1911, but what do I use for the online publication date?
mbcross,you are using a book…
mbcross, you are using a book that is part of a series. See EE4 §13.88. Example 3 treats a University of Minnesota pub that is quite parallel to the Indiana University pub you are using. That would be your Layer 1. You would then cite Google in standard website form in Layer 2, with the date being the date you accessed it.
That said, I'm puzzled why you have not cited the book in standard book format.
I'm not sure; I think partly…
I'm not sure; I think partly because I was maybe leaning toward it being a journal, but using that information, something like this?
Logan Esarey, editor, Indiana University Bulletin: Register of Graduates 1830-1910 (Bloomington: Indiana University, 1911); PDF download, Google Books (https://books.google.com/ : accessed 18 June 2025).
