Griffiths Valuation

I just want to see if I got this citation right...This volume is for both County Longford and Westmeath. There are divider pages that specifies the Barony, County and Union. Not quite sure if the divider pages should be considered a "chapter" or if I should just add the locations, like I did, in the end of layer 1.

Richard Griffith, General Valuation of Rateable Property in Ireland ...Union of Ballymahon… County of Longford and Westmeath (Dublin: Her Majesty’s  Stationery Office, 1854), 79, for Thomas Flood, occupier, Shrule (Barony) Longford (County) Forgney (parish), Forgney (townland); imaged from “Griffith’s Valuation”  Ask About Ireland (http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation : accessed 29 September 2020); citing "OMS Services Ltd, Eneclann Ltd and the National Library of Ireland".

It's challenging to get from page to page so I will give some urls:

Hendrickson, the URLs you give for the various Ask about Ireland webpages do not work for me. Using the search engine for the terms you gave, I was able to get to the right imaged page. You might consider orienting the citation toward search terms, rather than an exact URL.

Presumably, you've seen EE's 11.63 model for Griffiths, accessed through a different online source, with additional discussion of the major issues.

Also, given that you are citing an images of a published book and you have cited the book fully, it is not necessary to add a third layer to identify the library or entity through which the website provider accessed the book.

I did read 11.63 and just read it again to see if I missed anything. Given that you mention orienting towards search terms- I realize I haven't needed to do that before so hopefully I got this right. Richard Griffith, General Valuation of Rateable Property in Ireland ...Union of Ballymahon… County of Longford and Westmeath (Dublin: Her Majesty’s  Stationery Office, 1854), 79, for Thomas Flood, occupier, Shrule (Barony) Longford (County) Forgney (parish), Forgney (townland); imaged from “Griffith’s Valuation”  Ask About Ireland (http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation : accessed 29 September 2020), located using search terms Flood + Thomas + Longford + Forgney. Forgive the fact I haven't italicized the name of the book - but there seem to be no editing tools here for me to do that and copy and paste didn't bring styles over. Perhaps the tools aren't working on the site right now.

Hendrickson, sorry you had a problem with the website tools. They're working fine on this end, but I'll ask my site manager to check the interfaced used by non-editors. In the image that you attached, which you screen grabbed from the editing space you used, there's a line at the bottom that says: "Text format," with options accessed by up and down buttons. The default built into the underlying template is "Basic HTML." The other choices are "Filtered HTML" and "Full HTML."  On my end, I always use "Full HTML."

EE's tweaks to your latest would be these:

     1. Richard Griffith, General Valuation of Rateable Property in Ireland ...Union of Ballymahon … County of Longford and Westmeath (Dublin: Her Majesty’s Stationery Office, 1854), 79, for Thomas Flood, occupier, Shrule (Barony), Longford (County), Forgney (parish), Forgney (townland); imaged from “Griffith’s Valuation, database with images,  Ask About Ireland (http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation : accessed 29 September 2020), located using search terms above.

Given that you've already identified your search terms in the "specific item of interest" field in Layer 1, EE would not consider it necessary to repeat them.

Thanks EE - one more question if you don't mind. I saw two examples in the book, one in 2.33 where the search terms were enclosed on quotation marks and another in 2.70 where the search term was in italics. Can you explain the difference and if either of them applies to my citation? thank you. btw: no option for full html :)

Either way is acceptable (see EE 2.68 "Words as a term"). This is one of the style issues that derives from the classic Chicago Manual of Style (17th ed., 7.63).
