Will book vs. Death book citations

From EE 10.30 example 3, I formed this long form will book citation. The will book contains transcripts of original wills. It is located in the Hancock County, Indiana, Clerk's office in Greenfield:

     29. Hancock County, Indiana, Will Book 1: 183-184, Coonrod S. Coon; Hancock County Clerk, Greenfield.

I had previously formatted what I thought was a correct long form citation for a death record in a book of deaths in the Henry County Health Department, New Castle, Indiana. I used the model for County-level Registrations, EE 9.34, combined with the LOCAL RECORDS : VITAL-RECORDS REGISTER Quick Check Model. Barbra Coon's death registration is on page 13 of Book CCS-1 of Deaths, and it is record number 163 on that page.

 34. Henry County, Indiana, “Deaths, Book CSS-1,” p. 13, no. 163, Barbra Coon; Henry County Health Department, New Castle.

When I saw that the Death Book used double quotes and the Will Book citation did not, I questioned the Death citation. Everything I need is there for both citations, regardless of their differences.

What is the purpose of the quotes around the death book title and the lack of them around the will book name/number/title?

eevande, if we are citing the exact title of a single volume, we put quotation marks around it. (Quote marks are a madly waving red flag that signals: "Hey, this is copied exactly.") If we are citing a numbered volume from a generic series, then we just cite the series generically (no quote marks), along with the page number.

You'll find this discussed in several places in EE. The fullest discussion is in Chapter 7: 7.13 ("Record Books Cited by Exact Title") and 7.14 ("Record Books Cited  by Series and Volume." In the county-courthouse records, you'll find reminders about it at 8.7 and 8.10 ("Citing Exact Titles"), with examples at 8.15 and 8.18.

I see! Sometimes I look so hard in the book to try to find the answer that I miss it. I don't have it memorized - not even close - but I sure am working hard for this one article that seems like it will never get finished! Thank you very much.
